How to play

Five events. Five years. Score points for closeness, then read the story.

The daily structure

Each day has five rounds. Every round shows a title and a short clue for a real historical event. Your job is to guess the year it happened. After you submit, you see how close you were and unlock a short story about the event.

Entering a year

Type a year in the input, or scroll the era wheel to move through years. Use the sign control for BCE years (negative years). When you are ready, submit your guess.

Scoring

• Accuracy (0–100) — closer years score higher; exact years score 100.
• Round multipliers — rounds score as accuracy × multiplier: ×1, ×1, ×2, ×3, ×3 for rounds 1–5. Later rounds are worth more, so staying accurate under pressure matters.
• Total score — the sum of all five rounds (max 1000 if every round is exact).

You do not need perfect recall. A thoughtful estimate that lands in the right century still teaches you something when the reveal appears.

Feedback and stories

After each guess you see your accuracy, points, and the correct year, followed by a short narrative and optional source links. On the results screen you can reopen any round’s story and share your day’s score.

Today vs archive

Today’s puzzle is the main daily. Finishing it on the same calendar day counts toward your streak.

Archive lets you play earlier dates from the ☰ menu → Archive (or Account → Calendar). Free accounts can play the last 7 days; Chrono+ unlocks the full archive. Completing an archive day later still saves a score for that date, but it does not extend a “same-day” streak the way finishing today’s puzzle today does.

Streaks

Your streak counts consecutive calendar days where you finished that day’s puzzle on that same day. Missing a day usually breaks the streak. Chrono+ includes limited streak forgiveness.

Timeline

After you finish days, Chrono+ can open a full Timeline of stories you’ve played, ordered by year. Free play still shows your full local rail (locked titles stay hidden), and you can reopen every story from your 3 most recently finished days. Chrono+ unlocks the full cross-device list.

Re-guess (Chrono+)

If a guess is far off, Chrono+ may offer one re-guess for that daily. Accepting replaces the original round score with a reduced share of the new attempt (tier depends on how far off you were). Declining keeps your original score and does not use the ticket. Re-guess is limited per account per daily.

Practice / replay

Chrono+ can replay a completed day for practice. Practice runs do not replace your saved daily score or leaderboard entry.

Sharing

From results, share a text summary via the system share sheet when available, or copy it to the clipboard.
